Nicholas Yvan “Niko” Bolduc is the owner and operator of Spearfishing Baja. Although born in São Luís, the capital city of the Brazilian state of Maranhão, Niko was raised in Québec, Canada, and honed his spearfishing skills hunting in the large shipping channels of the Saint Lawrence River.
The son of professional parents – a lawyer and an English teacher – Niko was ambitious from an early age. He studied hotel management at CÉGEP and the Université de Sherbrooke, and had opened his own catering company by the age of 18.
Niko eventually sold this first business, traveling extensively and becoming involved in several wide-ranging ventures – including ownership of a popular Mexican restaurant in Montreal, and a peripatetic position as seller for a women’s clothing company in Brazil – before deciding to move to Cabo San Lucas to realize his dream job as a free diving spearo.
Spearfishing Baja opened in December 2013, and quickly gained a loyal clientele and a reputation as one of the region’s premier undersea adventure providers. The company has been profiled by several prominent publications – most notably USA Today – and Niko has written of his own undersea adventures for Hawaii Skin Diver: The Global Journal of Spearfishing.
